Retrofit or full-frame replacement
Retrofit windows fit inside the existing frame, so the stucco stays mostly untouched. That is quicker and less disruptive. Full-frame replacement removes the old frame, which lets us fix rot, correct flashing, and change the size. If your old windows have leaked, full-frame is usually the better call. We show you both options and why we recommend one.
Bigger openings and new doors
Widening an opening for a slider or folding door means cutting into a bearing wall in many cases. That requires a properly sized header and sometimes an engineer's design. Our framing and structural work covers the beam and posts, and our stucco crew closes up the exterior so the patch disappears. The result is an opening that is clean, square, and sealed.

Do I need a permit to replace windows in California?
It depends on the city and the scope. Same-size replacements are sometimes simpler to permit, while new or enlarged openings almost always need a permit. Replacement windows also have to meet California energy code, and KR confirms the local requirements for your home.
What is the difference between retrofit and new construction windows?
Retrofit windows install inside the existing frame with a flange that covers the old frame, so exterior walls stay intact. New construction or full-frame windows remove the old frame and nail to the framing, which allows repairs and size changes but requires patching stucco or siding.
Can you make a window opening bigger for a sliding door?
Yes, in most cases. If the wall is load bearing, the opening needs a new header sized for the load, and larger spans may need engineered plans. We handle the framing, the door install, and the exterior and interior patching.
What is an egress window?
An egress window is a window large enough and low enough for a person to escape through in an emergency. Building code requires one in sleeping rooms, which matters when you add a bedroom, convert a garage, or build an ADU.
